“Hachiman Zaka, one of Hakodate's four scenic slopes, features cobblestone streets, classic lamps, and a famous view down to Hakodate Bay and the Mashumaru ship, enhanced by winter illumination.”
Hachiman Zaka (八幡坂) is located in the Motomachi area of Hakodate, Hokkaido, and is one of the city’s most popular tourist spots as well as one of the four most scenic slopes (together with Motoi-zaka, Saiwai-zaka, and Daisan-zaka).
Unique Scenery
The slope is famous for its straight, descending view toward Hakodate Bay, with clear blue skies and sea. At the end of the slope, visitors can see the Seikan Ferry Memorial Ship Mashumaru anchored in the harbor.
The street is lined with cobblestone paths and Western-style buildings, creating a romantic atmosphere perfect for photography. In front of Hakodatenishi High School, it is a top photo spot often used for commercials and films.
