“Experience the sacredness of Goddess Lim Ko Niao, admire ancient Chinese shrine architecture, and learn about the legend of filial piety that forms the cultural foundation of Pattani”

Chao Mae Lim Ko Niao Shrine, officially known as Leng Ju Ki Shrine, is located in the Mueang District of Pattani Province. It is one of Thailand's most famous sacred sites and serves as a spiritual center for Thai-Chinese people and tourists from across Southeast Asia. The shrine has a long history and is deeply connected to beliefs in gratitude and protection. Goddess Lim Ko Niao herself is a symbol of sibling love and unwavering honesty to one's promises.

The Legend of the Past:

  • The story tells that Lim Ko Niao traveled from China to find her brother, Lim To Khiam, to bring him back to care for their sick mother. However, her brother could not return as he was committed to building the Krue Se Mosque. Lim Ko Niao then decided to end her life to demonstrate her loyalty and fulfill her vow of never returning home without her brother. Faithful locals later invited her spirit and carved a statue in her likeness, creating a tradition of worship that continues to this day.

In Terms of Architecture:

  • Leng Ju Ki Shrine showcases the beauty of ancient Chinese design. Inside, it houses the carved statue of Goddess Lim Ko Niao, made from cashew wood as described in the legend. There are also other important deities, such as Mazu (The Goddess of the Sea) and the God of Wealth. The atmosphere is filled with incense smoke and candlelight, reflecting the deep faith of people who come to pray for business success, career advancement, and good health.

Core Highlight Activities:

  • The Chao Mae Lim Ko Niao Festival is held grandly on the 15th day of the first lunar month (Chinese Calendar) every year. The event features miraculous displays, such as fire-walking and carrying the goddess statue through the Pattani River, attracting massive crowds seeking blessings. Additionally, the nearby Chao Mae Lim Ko Niao Museum collects historical records and important artifacts related to this legend for visitors to study.

Chao Mae Lim Ko Niao Shrine is not just a place for religious rituals; it is a symbol of gratitude and faith that harmoniously brings people of different cultures together in Pattani.
