Phayao Freshwater Fisheries Station, officially known as the Research and Development Center for Freshwater Fisheries, Phayao, is a key fisheries agency in Northern Thailand. It was established to breed freshwater fish and conduct research to increase fish populations in natural water bodies, especially Phayao Lake, which is a central part of the region’s ecosystem.

The station covers more than 200 rai (approx. 79 acres) and includes operational buildings, hatcheries, experimental ponds, and the Phayao Freshwater Aquatic Species Exhibition, which is open to the public and students for free. The exhibition features a variety of freshwater fish, both ornamental and rare species, including Mekong giant catfish, hybrid catfish, Nile tilapia, and white carp. The station also houses the Princess Mother’s Royal Residence, where the Princess Mother once conducted her official visits in Phayao.

The surrounding area is shaded and tranquil, with trees and ponds suitable for walking, sightseeing, and photography. During the cool season, the flower gardens around the residence bloom beautifully. Visitors can also enjoy feeding the fish in the breeding ponds, a favorite activity for many.
