“ Houses Phra Chao Lan Tue, a highly revered bronze Buddha image in the Maravichai posture, a symbol of faith and craftsmanship in Phayao ”

Wat Si Umong Kham has a long history dating back to the Lanna Kingdom, with formal construction records from 1846 BE. It was historically called Wat Sung because it is located on a prominent hill. The temple complex includes the Ubosot, Sala Kan Phrien, Vihara, and monk’s quarters.

Key Relics and Historic Sites:

Phra Chao Lan Tue (Luang Pho Ngam Muang Ruang Rit)

  • The main sacred object and center of devotion in Phayao. This bronze Buddha image in the Maravichai posture features unique Phu Kam Yao (Phayao) style craftsmanship, about 500 years old. It was once abandoned in Wiang Kaew before being restored and enshrined in the temple. Some sources indicate it was previously located at Wat Si Chom Ruang.

Chiang Saen-era Chedi and Historic Vihara Base

  • The chedi enshrines sacred relics and retains its original Chiang Saen-style architecture. The vihara base is officially registered in the Royal Gazette (1935 BE) as historic evidence of the former vihara structure.

Other Important Buddha Images

The temple also houses ancient sandstone Buddha images in the Maravichai posture, including:

  • Phra Buddha Sandstone (Luang Pho Thanjai)
  • Phra Buddha Sandstone (Phra Khaeng Khom)
Both date back to the late 21st Buddhist century.
