“A memorial honoring 399 heroic martyrs, featuring a museum with historical photos and military artifacts, conveniently located near Chiang Kham District.”

Memorial of the PTT 2324 Sacrificers The term “PTT” stands for “Civilian, Police, and Military,” while “2324” represents the year the monument was completed. Located within Khun Chom Tham Camp (Infantry Regiment 17, Battalion 4), this landmark holds great significance in Thailand’s military and political history. It was built to commemorate and honor the bravery and sacrifice of those who gave their lives to protect the nation.

History:
The Memorial of the PTT 2324 Sacrificers was built in honor of civilians, police officers, and soldiers who lost their lives during anti-communist suppression operations in northern Thailand, particularly along the borders of Phayao and Chiang Rai provinces, between 1968 and 1981. A total of 399 heroes are memorialized here for their courage and devotion in preserving national peace and security.

The Monument:
The structure is a tall, dark-green pentagonal pillar set on a semi-circular courtyard surrounded by a landscaped garden and stone pathways. The names of all 399 fallen heroes are inscribed on the front, along with the emblems of the three armed forces and the police, symbolizing unity in defending the nation. His Majesty King Rama IX presided over the inauguration ceremony on January 31, 1982, marking a momentous chapter in Thai history.

The Museum:
The on-site museum displays exhibitions about the anti-communist conflict, featuring historical photographs, battlefield dioramas, and authentic weaponry such as machine guns, grenades, and military uniforms. Visitors can also see maps, movement charts, and personal belongings of soldiers from that era. These exhibits provide deeper insight into the conflict and remind visitors of the tremendous sacrifices made for the country’s peace and independence.

Annual Remembrance Ceremony:
Every year, in late January, the site hosts the “PTT 2324 Remembrance Day,” a solemn event to pay tribute to the fallen heroes. The ceremony includes wreath-laying, candlelight vigils, religious rituals, and performances by military units. It draws participation from government officials, soldiers, police, students, and the public who come together to honor the brave.

The Memorial of the PTT 2324 Sacrificers is not just a historical landmark — it stands as a symbol of courage, unity, and patriotism, representing the unwavering spirit of the Thai people who defended their homeland with honor.
