“A striking star-shaped pavilion over the water, featuring over 20 freshwater fish displays and a central opening to view Bueng Si Fai fish in their natural habitat up close. ”
Chaloem Phra Kiat Aquarium, Bueng Si Fai is an educational tourist attraction that combines knowledge with enjoyment, making it ideal for visitors of all ages, especially families and children.
Architectural Significance:
The building was constructed to honor the auspicious occasion of the 5th Cycle Birthday Anniversary (60th Birthday) of King Rama IX. It is designed as a nine-pointed star-shaped pavilion, extending into Bueng Si Fai Lake, with a total usable area of approximately 400 square meters.
Exhibition Areas:
The interior consists of 12 built-in wall aquariums and more than 20 freestanding display tanks, showcasing freshwater fish from Thailand’s river basins such as Mekong giant catfish, arapaima, and Sumatran tiger fish, along with ornamental fish from abroad. Fish species are rotated regularly to maintain variety.
Natural Fish Viewing Highlight:
The centerpiece of the building is a central open void directly connected to Bueng Si Fai Lake, allowing visitors to look down and observe schools of fish swimming freely in their natural environment—an especially exciting experience for children.
Management:
The aquarium is operated by the Phichit Freshwater Aquaculture Research and Development Center, Department of Fisheries, ensuring accurate scientific information and proper aquatic animal care.
