“Experience sustainable agriculture in a historic land development area and witness the famous 5-star OTOP Sisal fiber handicrafts.”

Hup Kapong Royal Project Learning Center is a historically significant area and agricultural learning center in Thailand. It was established as the first project under the royal initiative of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) to provide assistance to impoverished farmers and transform arid land into a sustainable model of agriculture.

The Hup Kapong project serves as a comprehensive agricultural learning center, where visitors can study soil management, water resource allocation, and the principles of New Theory Agriculture that have become models for other areas across the country. Demonstration plots of local vegetables and fruits are arranged neatly and beautifully, allowing visitors to learn while enjoying scenic valley views.

A standout highlight is the Pa Narai handicrafts, a supplementary occupation given to women in the community. Locals use drought-resistant plants to weave durable and stylish bags, shoes, hats, and household items. The park also features the “Thai-Israeli Colony” zone, which reflects past collaboration between Thailand and Israel in agricultural technology development for arid regions, offering an educational and historically significant experience.

The surrounding atmosphere is filled with the simple and warm lifestyle of local farmers. Visitors can stroll through the cooperative village, observe daily life, and enjoy the fresh air in the morning and evening. This makes Hup Kapong a place that offers both knowledge and peace of mind, ideal for school trips, educational tours, or family visits to learn about self-sufficiency.

For shoppers and art enthusiasts, Hup Kapong is a hub of high-quality OTOP products made directly by villagers, including Pa Narai handicrafts, bags, hats, and shoes. There are also processed agricultural products such as asparagus, organic vegetables, and other local souvenirs, allowing visitors to bring home authentic and practical mementos while capturing photographs of the warm and genuine community lifestyle.

Hup Kapong is not only a center for learning and agricultural practice but also a symbol of the King’s benevolence and a testament to the success of Thai wisdom in land and community development. Visiting this place helps people understand the true meaning of “sufficiency” while experiencing the beauty of nature, the local way of life, and handcrafted items made with care and dedication.

Travel Tips
  • Best visiting season is from November to February, as the weather is not too hot for outdoor walking.

  • You should bring a hat, sunglasses, or an umbrella, as most of the area is open-air with strong sunlight.

  • A camera is essential; I recommend wearing white or dark-toned outfits to contrast with the green agricultural fields for standout photos.

  • There are onsite community shops and beverage services; try supporting processed local products during your break.

  • Plan your visit for the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat.
