“A vibrant fresh seafood hub where you buy and dine instantly. Experience authentic sea gypsy culture amidst iconic longtail boats and the island’s best gateway.”
Rawai Beach, located at the southernmost point of Phuket Island, has a curved shape that gives you a first look at the coastline of Phuket province. While Long Beach or Karon Beach offer different perspectives, Rawai Beach is a uniquely shaped coastline, characterized by rocky outcrops mixed with muddy sand. While not ideal for general swimming or water activities, it holds special significance as a "natural harbor," a gateway for longtail boats serving trips to nearby islands such as Koh Bon, Koh Hey, Koh Racha, and Koh Kaew Phisadan.
A distinctive feature of Rawai Beach is its "sea gypsy community," or Urak Lawoi, an indigenous ethnic group whose traditional fishing practices and culture are deeply ingrained in the beach's history. This community maintains its culture, beliefs, and traditional fishing methods, giving rise to the "Rawai Seafood Market," where fresh seafood is brought directly from the boats to the stalls at reasonable prices. Restaurants prepare dishes according to your preferences, emphasizing spiciness levels based on weight, creating a unique dining experience.
The Rawai beachfront is also lined with large pine and sea almond trees that provide cool shade for relaxing by the water, perfect for fishing trips and enjoying the evening atmosphere to meet locals and enjoy the sea breeze. Rawai is a key hub for accessing other important attractions, such as Phuket's fossil and rare artifacts collection and the first Promthep Cape. These two projects highlight a bustling central business district with innovative features, trendy cafes, and a Muay Thai gym that attracts visitors.
