“Three viewpoints offer panoramic views of Huai Khilek Reservoir and the Phu Phan mountain range. The area features remnants of a former U.S. military base, a cool and pleasant atmosphere, and the chance to see a sea of mist in the early morning.”

Phu Mu Forest Park is located in Nikhom Kham Soi District, Mukdahan Province, Thailand. It sits at an elevation of approximately 300–400 meters above sea level and features a broad mountaintop plateau of around 4 square kilometers, allowing panoramic views in all directions. The name “Phu Mu” originates from the past when the area was a dense forest inhabited by wild boars, which led locals to adopt this name. The terrain consists of cliffs surrounding a relatively flat summit, making it suitable for nature walks and multiple scenic viewpoints. It is especially popular for sunrise, sunset, and morning sea-of-mist views.

There are three main viewpoints: the first overlooks Phu Tham Men, Phu Mai Sang, and Huai Khilek Reservoir; the second offers views of the Phu Phan mountain range, Phu Noi, and Phu Tio; and the third overlooks Phu Tham Phra and the Loeng Nok Tha area. The forest remains ecologically rich, consisting mainly of dry dipterocarp and mixed deciduous forests, with various small wildlife and bird species, creating a peaceful natural atmosphere ideal for relaxation.Historically, the area was once used as a strategic site and communication base during wartime, and some remnants of old structures can still be found.

Currently, it is managed by the Phu Sa Dok Bua National Park unit, with conservation controls in place. It is suitable for nature tourism and camping activities.Travel can be made via Highway 212 from Mukdahan city toward Nikhom Kham Soi District, then turning onto a 10–12 km access road to the hilltop. The road is paved but steep and winding in some sections. The best visiting period is late rainy season to winter, when there is a high chance of seeing a sea of mist, especially in the early morning when the scenery is at its most beautiful.
