“ Wat Phra That Chom Mon is one of the four guardian pagodas believed to protect the town of Mae Sariang. It offers expansive and impressive views of the town and the surrounding valley.”
Wat Phra That Chom Mon (Wat Phra That Chom Mon) is a significant and revered place of worship, considered one of the four sacred pagodas that have long been revered by the people of Mae Sariang. It is located on a hilltop to the northwest of the town.
Although the name of the temple is associated with the Mon people, evidence found in the ancient stupa suggests it was built during the reign of King Saen Mueang Ma of the Chiang Mai Kingdom around 1392. Later, it underwent a major restoration by Mon people who sought refuge under King Naresuan the Great during that era. Another significant restoration took place in 1997, where the original pagoda was encased in a larger, taller structure.
The main pagoda (chedi) is in a distinctive white Lanna style, standing prominently on a wide platform. It is said to contain relics of the Buddha's chin and chest. Additionally, it enshrines 1,000 other Buddha relics that were donated.
Beyond its sacred importance, Wat Phra That Chom Mon is a superb viewpoint. From here, you can see a panoramic vista of Mae Sariang district, including houses nestled in the valley, rice fields, and the winding Yuam River. Watching the sunrise or sunset from this spot is an unforgettable experience.
If you wish to pay homage to the relics for blessings and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the town, Wat Phra That Chom Mon is a destination you shouldn't miss.
