“Phra Tamnak Pang Tong is a learning and research center under royal initiative that allows visitors to experience abundant nature, see sheep pastures, rare wildlife, and beautiful cool-climate flowerbeds.”
Phra Tamnak Pang Tong (Pang Tong Palace) is a significant and renowned site, being part of a Royal Project initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great (Rama IX) and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. The project focuses on improving the quality of life for highland communities, conserving natural resources, and protecting the environment in mountainous areas.
This place has a long history, established in 1980, it served as a site for experimentation, research, and promotion of cool-climate plant cultivation and animal husbandry for hill tribe communities. It also aimed to address issues such as forest encroachment and the cultivation of illicit crops in the past.
Later, it underwent renovation and development to preserve its cultural value and the faith of the community. Notably, under the royal command of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, efforts were made to reforest the area, conserve the Eung Sae orchid species, and promote sustainable livelihoods for local villagers. This transformed the project into an official learning center for highland development under royal initiative and an eco-agricultural conservation tourism destination.
During festivals or special seasons, visitors can experience the beautiful atmosphere of cool-climate flowerbeds in full bloom, as well as get up close with various animals, such as sheep in the sheep pasture and rare wildlife in the Pang Tong Open Zoo.
This site is also suitable for nature lovers and photographers, with its high mountain views, pleasant cool weather year-round, and a variety of flowers. Additionally, it's ideal for students and those interested in agricultural development and conservation to learn from this significant Royal Project.
If you wish to experience a beautiful agro-tourism and nature trip, while learning about an important Royal Development Project, Phra Tamnak Pang Tong is a place you shouldn't miss.
