“ Main island of the Kam Islands with a wide white sandy beach, clear blue water, gentle waves, natural pine trees, and a peaceful atmosphere ideal for relaxation. ”
Koh Kam Yai is the largest island in the Kam Islands group and is managed by Laem Son National Park, one of the most ecologically rich coastal protected areas in the upper Andaman Sea.
The island features a long stretch of fine white sandy beach mixed with occasional rocky areas. One of its most distinctive features is the natural growth of coastal pine trees (Casuarina), which provide shade and help reduce sea winds—creating a unique landscape rarely found on Andaman islands.
The surrounding ecosystem includes sandy beaches, seagrass beds, and nearby coral reefs—especially around Ko Kam Nui—supporting diverse marine life such as small fish, benthic organisms, and seabirds.
Ko Kam Yai serves as a key stopover and resting point in island-hopping programs, typically including:
- Ko Kam Nui (snorkeling)
- Ko Yipun (Japanese Island)
- Ko Khangkhao (Bat Island)
- Ko Kam Yai (main point)
Popular activities include having lunch, relaxing under pine trees, swimming, and beach walking. The calm waves make it suitable for all ages.
There are no accommodations, restaurants, or commercial facilities on the island. However, a ranger station from the national park ensures safety and maintains cleanliness. This limited development helps preserve the island’s natural condition and supports low-impact tourism.
The lack of electricity and limited mobile signal may be seen as a limitation, but it enhances the island’s appeal for travelers seeking a true nature escape or digital detox experience.
