“Red maple leaves create a spectacular scene when they fall and cover the forest floor, typically from December to January. The trail is shaded and filled with rare, beautiful montane forest plants.”
Tham Yai Waterfall originates from a stream on the mountain summit that flows down cliffs dotted with large rock formations. Although not very wide, it is a tall waterfall surrounded by dense forest, creating a tranquil and humid atmosphere year-round.
The trail from Pen Phop Waterfall to Tham Yai is approximately 1 km long, shaded by large trees, and connects to key points such as Anodard Pool and Pha Lom Sak. Visitors must check entry and exit times with park officials strictly.
This waterfall is one of the most beautiful locations on Phu Kradueng to view red maple leaves. During December–January, the red leaves fall and cover the forest floor, contrasting beautifully with the green of the surrounding montane forest. The trail around the waterfall is rich with rare forest plants, and small wildlife may occasionally be seen.
Visitors can enjoy the site during winter for the red maple leaves or during the rainy season (around October) to see the waterfall at full flow. Tham Yai Waterfall is an important natural study and relaxation spot on the summit, offering both challenge and beauty for hikers.
