Fukuoka Airport (FUK) is a rare major airport located only 3 kilometers from the city center, allowing travelers to reach Hakata Station in just 5 minutes via the Kuko (Airport) Subway Line. This exceptional proximity makes it one of the fastest city-to-airport connections in the world and a key gateway to Kyushu.

In March 2025, the airport completed its largest transformation in decades. The International Terminal reopened on March 28, 2025, with its floor space doubled and a 6,000-square-meter walk-through duty-free area featuring luxury brands and the iconic Yagura Plaza, a traditional Japanese tower designed as a photo landmark. Travelers can now enjoy arrival duty-free shopping, purchasing alcohol and tobacco immediately after landing and before customs clearance. Security screening has also been upgraded with Smart Lanes (CT scanners), allowing laptops and liquids to remain inside carry-on bags.

Operational capacity was further strengthened by the opening of a second 2,500-meter runway in March 2025, significantly reducing congestion and improving on-time performance. This upgrade supports increased flight frequencies and the expansion of international routes across Asia.

Fukuoka Airport is served by a wide range of airlines.

• Domestic services are led by ANA (All Nippon Airways), Japan Airlines (JAL), Skymark Airlines, Peach Aviation, Jetstar Japan, and StarFlyer, connecting Fukuoka with Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, Okinawa, and other major Japanese cities.
• International airlines operating regular services include Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, EVA Air, China Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways International, Vietnam Airlines, and several Asian low-cost carriers, offering direct access to Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, and beyond.

Beyond transportation, the airport itself is a destination.
