“Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai was formerly known as Wat Plubphla Chai Chana Songkhram. Local people in the surrounding area also refer to this temple as Wat Yai or Wat Luang Pho To.”

Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai is an important ancient temple in Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province, with a long history dating back to the late Ayutthaya period. It was formerly known as “Wat Plubphla Chai Chana Songkhram,” reflecting the area’s historical role as a strategic route and an important riverside community along the Chao Phraya basin.Inside the temple is enshrined Luang Pho To, a large Buddha image in the Subduing Mara posture, which serves as a major spiritual center for local residents and pilgrims from across Thailand. According to legend, it is one of the “three floating Buddha brothers,” together with Luang Pho Sothon and Luang Pho Ban Laem.Because of this belief, the temple has become a highly revered sacred site where people come to pay respect and pray for blessings in prosperity, career success, and life achievements.

The temple’s ordination hall features a blend of early Rattanakosin Thai architecture. Inside, it is decorated with mural paintings depicting Buddhist stories, Jataka tales, and traditional riverside community life, showcasing delicate and refined local craftsmanship.Another important highlight is the Rap Bua Festival, held annually on the 14th day of the waxing moon in the 11th lunar month. During this event, local people gather lotus flowers and throw them onto the boat carrying Luang Pho To, symbolizing faith and the deep connection between the community and the waterway.

Today, Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai remains a spiritual center for the community and an important cultural tourism destination in Samut Prakan, combining faith, history, and local way of life in one place.
