“Golden teakwood kudi with exquisite gold-leaf decoration, sacred Luang Pho To Buddha image, an ancient artifacts museum, and a Thai classical music house preserving cultural heritage.”

Wat Phumarin Kudi Thong is an ancient riverside temple on the Mae Klong River, located in Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram Province. It holds great significance in terms of history, art, and the long-standing way of life of the riverside community dating back to the early Rattanakosin period.Originally, the temple was known as “Wat Phumarin.” It later became known as Wat Phumarin Kudi Thong after an antique teakwood pavilion called the “Golden Kudi” was relocated and enshrined within the temple grounds. This structure stands out for its beauty and artistic value, becoming the temple’s defining identity. The Golden Kudi is a small teakwood traditional Thai house, yet it is highly refined in craftsmanship. Its gold-leaf decoration and lacquer work reflect exceptional traditional Thai artistry, blending royal court aesthetics with local architectural styles in a harmonious way.It is believed that the Golden Kudi was associated with religious dedication during the early Rattanakosin era and may have once held significant cultural and ceremonial importance before being preserved and moved to this temple.

Inside the temple, there is an ordination hall used for religious ceremonies, housing a revered seated Buddha image in the Maravijaya posture, which serves as the spiritual center of the local community and visitors. The surrounding area is peaceful and shaded, as the temple is located along the Mae Klong River. Visitors can observe traditional riverside life, including boat transportation, fruit orchards, and the enduring lifestyle of the local community.Another important highlight is the Wat Phumarin Kudi Thong Museum, which exhibits ancient artifacts, traditional household items, Benjarong ceramics, Buddha images, and historical documents reflecting the development of the Mae Klong community over time.

These exhibits help visitors gain a deeper understanding of Thai traditional life, including beliefs, craftsmanship, and the close relationship between people and the river. In addition, the temple features a Thai classical music house dedicated to preserving and teaching traditional Thai music, such as the ranat (xylophone), gong ensembles, and pi phat orchestras, passing cultural knowledge on to younger generations. As a result, Wat Phumarin Kudi Thong is not only a religious site but also a cultural learning center for the community. It integrates history, art, riverside lifestyle, and Thai heritage, making it a meaningful destination for those interested in Thailand’s cultural depth in the Mae Klong region.
