Wat Phra Sing (Historic Site), also known as Wat Sing, is located about 100 meters north of Wat Phra Si Iriyabot. It is a medium-sized forest monastery in the Aranyik Zone. Although it has not been fully excavated or restored, it has a relatively wide area and forms part of Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with Sukhothai Historical Park, under the name “Historic Town of Sukhothai and Associated Historic Towns.”

History and Cultural Significance

  • Built during the late Sukhothai to early Ayutthaya period, taking two periods to complete.

  • A large forest monastery (Aranyik-style) intended for monks practicing forest asceticism.

  • Reflects Sukhothai-Kamphaeng Phet culture and art through its layout and chedi style.

  • Once housed the important Phra Sing Buddha image.

Architectural Details

  • Enclosure Wall: Made of laterite.

  • Principal Chedi Base: 11 meters wide, square-shaped, with four Buddha niches and four corner chedis.

  • Main Hall Base in Front of Chedi: 15 meters wide × 30 meters long, on a lower base of 23 meters × 42 meters.

  • Halls: On the south side, one large hall and one smaller hall.

  • Main Hall: Features large laterite pillars and a solid foundation.

  • Water Ponds: Two ponds within the monastery, lined with laterite.

By Car:

By Public Transport:

From Kamphaeng Phet Bus Terminal, take a songthaew or tuk-tuk to Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park (Aranyik Zone).

Follow the signs within the park to reach the site.
