“Witness the marvel of thousands of swallows coexisting with Buddha images in the vihara, and pay respects to the incorruptible body of Luang Pu Kaew, the highly revered former abbot.”

Sutthi Wat Wararam Temple (Chong Lom Temple), commonly known as Wat Chong Lom, is the most important temple in Samut Sakhon Province. It is uniquely located at the mouth of the Tha Chin River, where it receives refreshing sea breezes throughout the day, creating a cool and airy atmosphere. The temple has been recognized as a model development temple, noted for its cleanliness, organization, and lush surroundings. It is also closely connected to Thai history, having served as a temporary residence for members of the royal family during royal visits in the past.

One of the temple’s rare and truly fascinating features is found inside Luang Pu Kaew Viharn, where the statue and incorruptible body of Phra Thep Sakhon Muni (Luang Pu Kaew) are enshrined. Remarkably, this viharn has become home to a vast colony of swallows, which have nested along the ceiling and walls for many decades. What makes this phenomenon especially astonishing is that the birds do not create mess or disturb worshippers. Instead, their presence adds a mystical, serene, and unforgettable atmosphere to the sacred space.

The surroundings of the temple are elegant, majestic, and deeply spiritual. The main ordination hall is constructed entirely of marble, giving it a sense of grandeur and permanence. Inside sits a beautifully crafted principal Buddha image with graceful features. At the front of the temple stands a royal statue of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), respectfully placed beside the Tha Chin River. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Gulf of Thailand estuary, watching fishing boats pass by while breathing in the fresh sea air.

For those who appreciate art and nature, Chong Lom Temple is a well-rounded destination offering spiritual significance, architectural beauty, and scenic riverside landscapes. Photographers often visit during the late afternoon to capture the warm light reflecting off the Buddha images, temple buildings, and the river’s surface. The temple is also ideal for merit-making travelers and families seeking a peaceful, spacious, and easily accessible place filled with cultural and historical value.

Sutthiwat Woraram Temple, or Chong Lom Temple, is therefore more than just a religious site; it is a place where faith, history, and natural wonder harmoniously come together. Visitors are warmly invited to experience the gentle sea breeze, absorb the spiritual energy, and create lasting memories at this iconic landmark of Samut Sakhon.
