“Witness history through the Green Stone Buddha Image of the Dvaravati period, admire King Rama V’s palanquin, and explore the wisdom behind Maenam Noi ceramics that were once exported globally.”

In Buri National Museum has a history closely connected to the ancient roots of communities in the upper Chao Phraya River basin. Archaeological evidence indicates that the In Buri area was inhabited as early as the Dvaravati period, around the 12th–16th Buddhist centuries. Significant discoveries have been made at the Ban Khu Mueang archaeological site in Huai Chan Subdistrict, including various types of ancient artifacts that reflect the region’s religious, economic, and settlement development in ancient times.

Historically, In Buri functioned as a northern frontier city of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, with territorial connections to Chai Nat, a southern outpost of the Sukhothai Kingdom. Due to its strategic location, the area played an important role in administration, trade, and cultural exchange between major Thai kingdoms throughout different periods.

The In Buri National Museum is located within the grounds of Wat Bot (a royal monastery) in In Buri Subdistrict, In Buri District, Sing Buri Province. The museum was first established in 1938 as a temple museum under the initiative of Phra Thep Suthamoli (Phueng Rojano), the former abbot of Wat Bot and the ecclesiastical governor of Sing Buri and Uthai Thani Provinces (Dhammayut Order). He collected ancient artifacts and works of art donated by local residents and displayed them for public education under the name “Wat Bot National Museum.”

As the collection expanded and the exhibits were organized according to academic standards, the responsibility for the museum was transferred to the Fine Arts Department, and approval was granted to rename it “The In Buri National Museum.” Today, the museum operates under the Office of Archaeology and National Museums, Fine Arts Department, Ministry of Education, serving as an important center for archaeological and local historical studies in Sing Buri and neighboring areas.

In terms of exhibitions, the In Buri National Museum features permanent exhibitions in two buildings comprising four exhibition rooms. The displays are divided into two main sections:

  • The upper floor, which exhibits religious art and artifacts related to Buddhism, including Buddha images and sacred objects reflecting traditional beliefs.

  • The ground floor, which presents exhibitions on local Thai wisdom, illustrating the lifestyle, traditions, and indigenous knowledge of communities in the Chao Phraya River basin.

The In Buri National Museum therefore serves not only as a repository of cultural heritage but also as a valuable learning center that connects the past with the present in a meaningful way.
