“Behold the magnificent laterite Prang, the birthplace of the legendary "Phra Phong Suphan," one of Thailand's top five sacred amulets (Benjapakee).”

Phra Si Rattana Mahathat Temple is a second-class royal temple and an important historical monument located on the western bank of the Suphan Buri River. It is believed to have been constructed during the late U Thong period or the early Ayutthaya era, making it more than 600 years old. The temple has long served as a sacred landmark of the city and remains a spiritual center for the people of Suphan Buri from the past to the present.

The most valuable highlight of the temple is the large prang (pagoda), built from laterite in the architectural style of the early Ayutthaya period. Enshrined inside are sacred relics of the Lord Buddha, which were discovered together with the famous Suphan Buri votive tablet cache (Phra Phong Suphan). The site also includes laterite Buddha image halls and the remains of ancient structures that clearly reflect the former prosperity of Buddhism in the region.

The atmosphere within the temple grounds is calm, serene, and filled with a sense of sacred mystery, surrounded by well-preserved ancient ruins. Visitors can admire the refined craftsmanship of ancient builders throughout the year, especially in the morning when sunlight casts a warm glow upon the laterite prang, creating a particularly striking and beautiful scene. The temple is ideal for architectural exploration as well as for paying respects and seeking blessings.

For historians, photographers, and art enthusiasts, this site is a true intellectual treasure, offering close-up study of surviving stucco patterns and architectural structures. The simplicity combined with the grandeur of the dark-brown laterite, set against the open sky, creates a powerful and visually impressive landscape.

Visitors are invited to experience the roots of faith and appreciate the grandeur of a well-preserved cultural heritage at Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, an ancient temple that vividly reflects the historical glory of Suphan Buri.
