Khon Kaen University, also known as the "University Dedicated to Society," is the oldest and largest educational institution in Northeastern Thailand. Founded in 1964 on a hilly area known as "Modindaeng," characterized by its distinctive red soil and dense vegetation, this 5,000-rai (approximately 800-hectare) campus has become a center of academic excellence and a large green space for Khon Kaen province. The campus is systematically organized into academic zones housing faculties covering health sciences, science and technology, and humanities and social sciences, along with comprehensive facilities.

One of its most striking features is its natural scenery. Especially during the transition from winter to summer (approximately February to March), the entire university transforms into a sea of ​​soft pink and white from thousands of blooming Cassia fistula trees, the university's official flower, lining the roads and surrounding faculties. This becomes a popular spot for tourists and photographers from across the country to capture this beautiful spectacle. Meanwhile, "Bueng Si Than," located to the west of the university, is a significant landmark serving as a recreational area, exercise space, and a venue for national-level cultural events, such as the Si Than Festival, which revives the traditional Northeastern Thai Loy Krathong festival.

In terms of architecture and landmarks, Khon Kaen University is home to the "Sala Tham" (Dharma Pavilion) and the "Chao Pho Modindaeng Shrine," spiritual centers for the Modindaeng community and people of Khon Kaen province. It also features the "White Bridge," a concrete bridge spanning a small pond, a popular photo spot with its classic and shady atmosphere. For those interested in knowledge and learning, the university houses the "Natural History Museum," one of the most modern exhibitions on biodiversity and paleontology in the Northeast, and the "Art and Culture Center," a wooden building with a modified traditional design located by Si Than Lake, which regularly hosts art exhibitions and cultural events.

• Private car: Drive along Mittraphap Road (Highway No. 2). The university is located along the main road and has several main entrances, such as Modindaeng Gate and Sitha Gate.

• Public transport: Khon Kaen City Bus (green and blue lines) passes in front of and inside the university. Songthaew (minibus) line 8 also operates around the city.

• If you want to see the Cassia fistula trees in full bloom, it's recommended to visit between February and March.

• It's best to come in the evening (from 4:30 PM onwards) to take a walk or jog around Si Than Lake, as the weather won't be too hot and the light will be beautiful.

• Prepare suitable shoes for walking or cycling.

Admission Fees:

General entry to the university campus and public landmarks (such as Sithan Lake, White Bridge, and Cassia Bakeriana groves) is free of charge. However, some internal attractions have maintenance fees:

• Natural History Museum & Science Museum: Adults 50 THB, students 30 THB, and children 10 THB (combo tickets for both museums are available at a discounted rate).

• Art & Culture Hall (Sithan Lake): Free entry.
