“A Ceylonese style pagoda covered with gold tiles stands majestically by the rocky beach, along with Luang Por Daeng's boat temple. The atmosphere is peaceful and houses the relics of the Lord Buddha.”
Laem Sor Pagoda (Laem Sor Pagoda) was built by Luang Por Daeng, a highly revered monk of Koh Samui. He passed away in a shipwreck in 1976. The pagoda was inspired by the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, India, and covered with gold tiles throughout the structure, making it resistant to the coastal climate and sparkling in the sunlight.
Tranquility in Taling Ngam:
The area around the pagoda is located on the southern cape of the island. The beach area is a mix of rocks and fine sand. The view of the golden pagoda contrasting with the sea creates peace and sanctity. Nearby is the Luang Por Daeng Boat Temple, a large junk-shaped building, inside enshrines a statue of him for people to pay homage and remember his good deeds.
A Connection between Faith and Nature:
This place is not just a tourist spot, but a center of the hearts of the people of Taling Ngam and Samui. On important religious days, there will be a Wian Tian ceremony around the pagoda by the sea, reflecting a way of life that is linked to Buddhism and the sea. The pagoda houses the relics of the Lord Buddha, making it a place of faith that tourists and islanders respect very much.
