“Enjoy an elephant ride through a UNESCO World Heritage site and witness the touching bond between mahouts and their intelligent companions in the heart of the ancient city.”

Ayutthaya Elephant Palace & Royal Kraal, formerly known as Ayutthaya Elephant Camp, is an important landmark located in the heart of Ayutthaya Island. It was established with the aim of conserving and preserving the long-standing relationship between Thai people and elephants. The site stands on historically significant land that once served as the Department of Royal Elephants (Krom Kachaban) in ancient times, an institution responsible for royal and war elephants. As such, this area has deep historical roots directly connected to traditional elephant science.

Ayutthaya Elephant Palace & Royal Kraal is more than a typical elephant camp. It has been developed as a learning center dedicated to elephant culture and Thai heritage, offering visitors insight into the important roles elephants played throughout Thai history—as war elephants, royal mounts, and powerful symbols of authority and prosperity. Experiencing elephants within a UNESCO World Heritage city creates a unique atmosphere that blends education, enjoyment, and cultural value.

One of the most distinctive and popular activities is elephant riding through historical areas, allowing visitors to pass near Wat Phra Ram and the Ayutthaya Historical Park. The sight of elephants moving gracefully alongside ancient stupas and ruins evokes a sense of traveling back in time to the glorious era of the Ayutthaya Kingdom. In addition, there is a smart elephant performance area where elephants demonstrate their abilities in entertaining shows that delight visitors of all ages.

The atmosphere within the elephant palace is lively and cheerful, yet still infused with a strong historical ambiance. Visitors can observe the systematic care of elephants, including health management, feeding, and well-organized training. The sound of elephant bells echoing alongside views of ancient chedis and old city walls creates a rare and memorable experience that seamlessly connects past and present. The area also offers resting spots where visitors can relax and enjoy observing elephants and their surroundings.

This destination is ideal for families with children, international tourists seeking an authentic cultural experience through Thailand’s most iconic animal, and photographers looking to capture Ayutthaya’s signature scene of “elephants and ancient temples.” Popular photo spots include the entrance area where elephants stand ready to welcome visitors, as well as elevated viewpoints capturing elephants crossing roads with Wat Maheyong or Wat Phra Ram in the background.

Ayutthaya Elephant Palace & Royal Kraal is not merely a tourist attraction, but a place of learning, conservation, and cultural awareness. Visitors are invited to share in the joy and support the preservation of Thai elephants in a unique setting that beautifully connects the past with the present.
