“Center of faith for Chao Pho Phraya Lae, located by Nong Pla Thao, featuring a peaceful and shady atmosphere, ideal for paying respects, with an annual grand worship and traditional dance ceremony.”

Chao Pho Phraya Lae Shrine is an important sacred shrine in Chaiyaphum Province, closely linked to the founding history of the city and the deep spiritual beliefs of the local Isan people. The shrine was built to honor Phraya Phakdi Chumphon (Lae), the first governor of Chaiyaphum, who is remembered for his loyalty to the Siamese kingdom and his dedication to duty until his final moments.A key historical event occurred in 1826, when he was executed near Nong Pla Thao after refusing to submit to the forces of Vientiane, leading him to be honored as a local hero.Later in 1968, the people of Chaiyaphum collectively built this shrine at the same site to commemorate his courage and sacrifice.

Inside the shrine is a statue of Phraya Phakdi Chumphon in traditional noble attire, and he is widely worshipped as “Chao Pho Phraya Lae.” Devotees often pray for career success, business prosperity, and personal blessings, and those whose wishes are fulfilled typically return to offer votive items such as wooden elephant carvings, performances, or traditional entertainment. The shrine also serves as a spiritual center for the community and hosts an annual grand worship ceremony featuring traditional dance performances and cultural activities that reflect the local identity.

Around Nong Pla Thao, visitors can also enjoy murals and street art depicting local life and the history of Chaiyaphum, making the area both a sacred site and a cultural tourism destination.
