“Inside the temple, there are stairs leading up to the top of the hill where the stupa housing the Buddha's relics and the Buddha footprint pavilion are located. This temple was registered as an ancient monument in 1987”
Chedi Yod Khao Phloi Waen Khao Ploy Waen Temple is a small temple located on Khao Ploy Waen hill. This area was originally the first gemstone mining site in Chanthaburi. Inside the temple, there is a staircase leading to the top of the hill, where a stupa housing the Buddha's relics and a Buddha footprint pavilion is situated. It was registered as a historical site in 1987. The stupa containing the Buddha's relics and the Buddha footprint pavilion was built by Phraya Krai Kosah, the governor of Chanthaburi, who constructed the Rattanakiri Stupa in 1836. The stupa is a round Ceylon-style structure made of brick and plaster, 4 wa wide and 6 wa 3 sok high, housing the Buddha's relics inside. In 1952, the stupa was restored by expanding the width_ and height_ of the base to 4 wa 2 sok wide and 7 wa high. In front of the stupa, there is a pavilion whose construction had been stalled since 1928, housing a 1 sok Buddha image in the Mara Vichaya posture and a replica of the Buddha's footprint at its base. Khao Ploy Waen Hill is a viewpoint offering panoramic views of Chanthaburi city and requires climbing approximately 600 steps to reach the top. The ascent is surrounded by lush tropical forest and there are many species of birds to observe, especially during the rainy season when many pied fantails migrate to nest. From the summit, you can see the town at the foot of the hill, Sarbap, to the west, and Laem Singh Beach and Namsao Island to the southwest. To the northeast, you can see the verdant fruit orchards
The most important feature of this place is the vast and far-reaching view. Upon reaching the hilltop, visitors are treated to an open, breezy atmosphere and can see various parts of Tha Mai district, rice fields, forests, and even the city of Chanthaburi in the distance. The hilltop area still features traces of ancient gem mining, which is a crucial part of the province's history. This makes it more than just a religious site; it is a location that tells the story of local wisdom and economy simultaneously.
