“A beautifully restored historical site situated near the Laem Sing estuary, clearly reflecting the remnants of the French occupation.”

Red Building is a brick-and-mortar structure painted in a vibrant red, located within the area of Pom Noen Wong. It was constructed in 1893 (R.S. 112) following the R.S. 112 Crisis, during which the French forces occupied Chanthaburi as a guarantee. This site was used as the headquarters and residence for French soldiers. The building holds significant historical importance as it symbolizes the period when Siam temporarily lost sovereignty over the Chanthaburi territory.

After the French withdrew from Chanthaburi in 1904, the building was converted into a Thai language school before being abandoned for a period. Currently, the Red Building has been restored to its complete condition and functions as a small museum, displaying historical information and artifacts related to the time the French played a role in the area, allowing visitors to deeply experience the atmosphere and stories of the past.

We invite everyone to experience the story and beauty of the Red Building to learn about the valuable history of Chanthaburi Province with your own eyes.
