“Witness the transformation of barren land into lush farms. Learn sustainability through demonstration plots, herbal gardens, and scenic reservoirs with free educational tram tours available.”

Khao Hin Sorn Royal Development Study Centre is one of the royal development study centers established under the guidance of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. It serves as a model for restoring natural resources and improving the quality of life for people in areas facing soil degradation and water scarcity. The center was established on August 8, 1979, on land in Khao Hin Sorn Subdistrict, Phanom Sarakham District, Chachoengsao Province. This area was previously arid, sandy, and highly eroded, making it unsuitable for cultivation. His Majesty envisioned developing this area into a learning center for sustainable soil, water, forest, and agricultural management, enabling people to apply this knowledge to their lives and livelihoods.

The center covers approximately 1,800–1,900 rai (about 460 hectares), encompassing comprehensive study, experimentation, and demonstration areas for various aspects of development, including soil development, water resource management, crop cultivation, livestock farming, fisheries, and forest conservation. This is accomplished through collaboration between government agencies, academics, and local communities. The center's key focus is on integrated farming based on the royal initiative and the philosophy of sufficiency economy, emphasizing efficient resource utilization, reduced production costs, and food security for the community. Visitors can see demonstration plots of various cash crops, horticultural crops, medicinal plants, and fruit trees, as well as experiments on restoring degraded soil to fertility.

Another highlight of the center is the "Eastern Botanical Garden," which houses a large collection of rare and medicinal plants for research, study, and plant genetic conservation. The garden features diverse plant species, including rattan, avocado, Thai and foreign mango varieties, and some rare trees with botanical value. There are also exhibitions on Thai herbs, herbal product processing, and agricultural demonstrations offering hands-on learning opportunities for tourists and educational groups. The surrounding atmosphere is lush with large trees and green spaces that have been restored to a more complete ecosystem than in the past.

The center also functions as a "living natural museum," concretely reflecting the royal initiative on sustainable development. Visitors can take a tram to explore the various areas within the center or walk along designated nature trails, encountering reservoirs, forest areas, and model agricultural plots designed to harmoniously integrate with the surrounding ecosystem. Beyond being an agricultural tourism destination, the center offers a wealth of cultural experiences. It also serves as an important learning resource for farmers, students, and environmentalists from across the country who come to study approaches to developing degraded land for sustainable use.

Due to its successful operations, the Khao Hin Son Development Study Center has been recognized as a model for agro-tourism and a learning center for natural resource development in Thailand. It has also received outstanding and excellent awards in the Thai tourism industry for agro-tourism destinations. The center's success not only reflects the developmental genius of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) but also serves as a significant example of restoring degraded land to a lush green area and as a learning resource that continuously benefits the public to this day.
