“A classic island destination that perfectly blends sacred Chinese shrines, miraculous natural caves, and the elegance of a seaside royal summer palace”

Koh Sichang Island  is a large island of immense importance in Thai history, particularly during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). The island is filled with the charm of architecture reflecting Siam's transition era, incorporating Thai, Western, and Chinese styles. Visiting here is more than a beach trip; it is a journey back in time to experience the glory of the past amidst a lush arboretum and well-preserved coastal nature.

Attractions on Koh Sichang Island

  • The Old Royal Ground: A historical seaside area shaded by ancient trees. Built during the reign of King Rama V as a retreat for princes and princesses during their recovery. It features large historic wells in excellent condition with poetic names such as Bor Asdang and Bor Phit Phloen.
  • Chong Khao Khat: Also known as Behind the Island, located on the southwest. It features steep cliffs and a wooden bridge winding along the hillside against the blue sea. It offers white sandy beaches and is the most popular sunset viewing spot.
  • Chao Pho Khao Yai Shrine: A sacred site near Tha Tewawong. It is a massive Chinese shrine built inside a natural cave, housing important figures like the Monkey God (Sun Wukong), Guanyin, and Sangkachai Buddha.
  • Chonlathassana Sathan Museum,:  The first marine ecosystem learning center and natural history museum on Koh Sichang. It features displays of local aquatic species and coral restoration exhibitions under the care of Chulalongkorn University.
  • Chakrapong Cave: Located near the Chinese Pavilion, it houses a Buddha image. Its highlight is a natural chimney that visitors can climb to reach the mountain peak for 360-degree panoramic views of the island.
  • Asdang Bridge: A classic Thai-style white wooden bridge stretching into the blue sea. A symbol of love and a beautiful reminder of the past, built during the reign of King Rama V as a royal pier and seaside retreat.
  • Phra Chudhadhuj Ratchathan Palace: The only seaside royal summer palace in Thailand built on an island. It is renowned for its collection of wooden residences and European-style buildings amidst an arboretum and stunning ocean views.

The uniqueness of Koh Sichang lies in the harmony between nature and belief. Visitors will find miraculous caves and steep cliffs formed by centuries of wind and sea erosion, alongside shrines and temples situated at the island's most scenic strategic points. The surroundings are shaded by large Frangipani trees (Leelawadee) that release a sweet fragrance throughout the Old Royal Ground, providing visitors with both historical knowledge and spiritual peace.

The lifestyle on Koh Sichang is unique and quiet because private cars are not permitted. Travel is conducted via "Skylab" (motorized tricycles) or rental motorcycles along concrete paths winding through the hills. Tourists will experience pure air and warm hospitality from the local fishing community, while enjoying fresh seafood available at seaside restaurants. This makes the island a destination that satisfies both adventure seekers and those in need of true relaxation.

For photographers and artists, Koh Sichang is a natural studio with beautiful elements in every frame from the golden hour at Chong Khao Khat to the cream-colored European-style structures against emerald waters. The proximity of various attractions allows for a complete experience in a single day, though staying overnight to enjoy the tranquil morning atmosphere is also an excellent choice.

Koh Sichang is more than just a tourist destination; it is a living heritage that gathers stories of faith and national memory in every step. We invite everyone to experience this timeless beauty and immerse themselves in the spirit of one of the most charming islands in the Gulf of Thailand.
