Khao Khad View Tower — also known as Panwa Viewpoint or Kaokard Viewpoint — is one of Phuket’s most stunning yet lesser-known viewpoints. Perched on a steep hill along the road to Cape Panwa, this hidden gem offers an unspoiled 360-degree panoramic view of the island. Unlike the crowded Promthep Cape or Big Buddha, it provides a quiet and relaxing atmosphere to fully enjoy the scenery.

The tower has two viewing levels, allowing visitors to take in sweeping vistas in every direction:

• West: Chalong Bay, forested hills, and the glistening Big Buddha on Ko Nakkerd — especially beautiful at sunset.

• East: The Andaman Sea, Makham Bay, Cape Panwa, and nearby islands including Koh Sirey, home to local sea gypsies.

• North: Phuket Town and the island’s deep-water port.

• South: Islands like Koh Lon, Coral Island, Koh Racha Yai, and on clear days, even the distant Phi Phi Islands.

Visitors can reach the upper deck by climbing around 200 concrete steps — a short workout that rewards you with one of Phuket’s most magnificent views. The calm winds and peaceful setting make it an ideal spot for photography, relaxation, or simply taking in the beauty of the island.

Facilities include ample parking, small local drink or snack vendors, and multilingual key maps (Thai and English) identifying visible islands and landmarks from the viewpoint.

• From Phuket Town, take Sakdidet Road heading toward Cape Panwa (about 10 km). Follow the signs for “Khao Khad View Tower,” then turn left and drive up the hill to the parking area located near the viewpoint base.

• The best time to visit is late afternoon to sunset for warm lighting over Chalong Bay.

• Bring water, a hat, or an umbrella if visiting midday.

• Ideal for panoramic and drone photography.

• For a quiet visit, come early in the morning when few tourists are around.
