Khao Phra Thaeo - Ton Sai Waterfall is located in the last remaining pristine rainforest on Phuket Island and has been declared a wildlife sanctuary to conserve its highly diverse ecosystem. The area comprises long-lived rainforests, montane forests, and mixed forests, resulting in extremely high biodiversity, including many species of plants and animals, especially wild birds, small mammals, and endemic plants not found elsewhere in the world.

Ton Sai Waterfall is one of the main waterfalls in the Khao Phra Thaeo area. It's a small to medium-sized waterfall formed by a natural stream flowing through rock formations and the rainforest into a pool below. Its most distinctive feature is the lush, pristine surrounding forest, creating a tranquil atmosphere ideal for relaxation and nature study. Water flow is highest during the rainy season and lower during the dry season, but still remains throughout the year.

The area around Ton Sai Waterfall is also an important nature study site in Phuket. Tourists can walk along nature trails through the forest, including short paths for enjoying the waterfall and longer trails that connect to Bang Pae Waterfall. The hiking trail takes visitors through a rainforest teeming with large trees, vines, and diverse native plants, including rare species like the "White-backed Palm," endemic to Phuket province.

Near the waterfall entrance, there is also a visitor center with basic amenities such as a canteen, restrooms, and rest areas, making the area suitable for both general tourists and those seeking a serious study of the ecosystem. However, as it is a protected area, land use is strictly controlled. Tourists should adhere to wildlife sanctuary rules, such as not littering, not collecting plants or animals, and maintaining quiet to avoid disturbing wildlife.

Khao Phra Thaeo plays a crucial role in maintaining the environmental balance of Phuket Island, serving as a watershed and carbon sink, as well as an environmental learning resource for both tourists and students. Therefore, it is not just a tourist destination but also a highly valuable ecological conservation area.

• From Phuket Town, take Thep Krasattri Road (Route 402) heading towards Thalang. After passing the Thalang intersection, look for the sign for Ton Sai Waterfall on the right side. Turn right and follow the road for approximately 3 kilometers until you reach the parking area.

• Visit in the morning for cooler weather and fewer crowds

• The waterfall is most beautiful and full after rain

• Wear non-slip shoes as trails can be wet and slippery

• Bring insect repellent due to the rainforest environment
