“A stunning Sino-Portuguese heritage building showcasing Hokkien Chinese roots, tin mining history, and Baba-Nyonya culture, perfectly preserving the invaluable identity and soul of Phuket.”

Phuket Thai Hua Museum is housed in a magnificent historic building that was originally the first Chinese language school in Phuket. Founded through the contributions of the "Phuket Hokkien Association" and the "School’s Alumni", the structure was completed in 1934. It stands as a prime example of Sino-Portuguese architecture, characterized by its elegant pediments and intricate stucco work. Historically, the building served as more than just an academic institution; it was a spiritual and cultural anchor for the Chinese-Thai community in Phuket, symbolizing the transmission of knowledge and the preservation of ancestral heritage across generations.

Inside, the museum features over 26 permanent exhibition rooms systematically designed to narrate the profound connection between the Hokkien Chinese people and the island. The journey begins with the history of mass migration from Southern China during the peak of the tin mining era. It provides in-depth technical and historical data regarding the tin industry, which was the backbone of Phuket's economy for decades. Furthermore, the museum showcases the traditional lifestyle within shophouses or "Teiam Ku," illustrating the architectural ingenuity used to adapt living spaces to the local tropical climate.

Beyond economic history, the museum emphasizes intangible cultural heritage, particularly the "Baba" or Peranakan culture—a unique Chinese-Malay hybrid identity exclusive to the region. Visitors can explore the intricate details of Baba-Nyonya attire, the diverse and flavorful local cuisine, and significant traditions such as the Vegetarian Festival. The exhibits also delve into the rituals, beliefs, and community faith that remain vibrant today. All information presented in the museum is meticulously compiled and verified using local historical archives and oral histories from Phuket’s long-standing families to ensure academic and historical accuracy.
