“Elegant King Rama VI-era European architecture featuring a classic white facade by the Chao Phraya River; a registered national landmark embodying Pathum Thani’s rich history.”

Old City Hall of Pathum Thani is one of the most important historical buildings in Pathum Thani Province. Located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Bang Parok Subdistrict, Mueang Pathum Thani District, the building reflects the development of governance, urban planning, and the influence of Western architecture in Thailand during the late reign of King Rama V to the reign of King Rama VI. Although there is no definitive evidence of the exact year of construction, based on the architectural style and artistic details, the Department of Community-Based Tourism Promotion and several cultural organizations assume that the building was constructed during the reign of King Vajiravudh (Rama VI), a period when Thailand began to widely adopt European-style government building designs.

The building is a single-story brick and mortar structure, raised approximately 1 meter from the ground floor, with walls enclosing the space underneath. This differs from traditional Thai houses which usually have an open space underneath for ventilation. The architectural style shows a harmonious blend of Western and Thai elements. The front features a central, elegantly layered porch. The two symmetrical wings make the building stand out when viewed from the Chao Phraya River. A key distinctive feature is the pediment adorned with European-style stucco decorations. The building bears the Garuda emblem, the symbol of Thai government buildings. The ventilation grilles above the doors and windows are adorned with intricately carved wood, showcasing the skill of Thai craftsmen of that era who beautifully blended Western artistry with traditional Thai woodworking.

In the past, the old Pathum Thani Provincial Hall served as the administrative center of the province and an important place for public official business during the era when water transportation played a significant role. Located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, it was easily accessible by boat, a primary mode of transport for the people of Pathum Thani in the past. The surrounding area was a significant community with markets, temples, and government offices located close together, reflecting the early stages of modern urban development in Pathum Thani. This building was not only a government office but also a symbol of the province's prosperity in the early 20th Buddhist century.

Due to its historical and architectural value and importance to the local community, the Fine Arts Department declared the old Pathum Thani Provincial Hall a national historical monument on February 18, 1996. Since then, continuous restoration and maintenance have been undertaken to preserve this important building in its original condition. Currently, parts of the building's interior are used as a learning center for local history and culture. It was also formerly used as the Pathum Thani City Historical Center, showcasing the history of the Mon community, riverside life, and the development of the province from the past to the present.

Beyond its historical value, the old Pathum Thani Provincial Hall is a popular cultural tourist attraction for visitors and photographers. Its striking white building stands out against the sky and the Chao Phraya River. The surrounding area has been developed into a riverside space for relaxation and strolling, especially beautiful at sunset. It's also close to the Pathum Thani Riverside Market, important temples, and old communities, making it convenient for tourists to explore the old town area of Pathum Thani on foot. Therefore, this place is not just an old government building, but a historical symbol and a shared memory for the people of Pathum Thani that still lives on today.
