“Khiritharn Dam is a multipurpose dam that blocks the Saphan Hin Canal. The surrounding scenery is beautiful.”

Khiri Than Dam is located in Khlung District, about 40 kilometers from the city of Chanthaburi. It was built by the Department of Energy Development and Promotion, Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment. It is a multipurpose dam used for electricity generation, irrigation, fisheries, and flood prevention and mitigation during the rainy season. The dam has a maximum capacity at an elevation of 205 meters above sea level, storing approximately 76 million cubic meters of water. The reservoir area has beautiful natural surroundings suitable for relaxation, but the dam's perimeter lacks any facilities.

It is a multipurpose dam that blocks the Saphan Hin Canal. The surrounding scenery is beautiful, surrounded by mountains covered with tropical rainforest and fruit orchards. Tourists need to travel quite a long distance to reach the dam, and since there are no restaurants or facilities, it is advisable to prepare and bring your own supplies.

Interesting things

The reservoir area behind the dam is surrounded by mountain ranges. Along the dam, there is the Ban Saphan Hin Bon village. The villagers' main occupation is fruit farming, while some have migrated from the northeastern region to work in fishing, catching fish in the reservoir such as silver barb, snakehead, giant gourami, and red-tailed catfish. Every day, trucks come to buy the fish and sell them in Wang Nam Khiao District, Sa Kaeo Province. In addition to fresh fish, there are also processed products like fermented fish and sour fish, which are sold along the roadside.

How to Get There

  • Public Transport: Take a bus to Chanthaburi city center and then hire a taxi or rented vehicle to the dam. Travel by private car is the most convenient option.
