“It is the most accessible sunset viewpoint near Wang Kwang Center. The wide rocky terrace makes it a relaxing spot after the long trek up the mountain. From here, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Phu Pha Chit, part of Nam Nao National Park, especially stunning during the cool season.”
Pha Mak Duk is usually the first cliff visitors visit to watch the sunset, especially on their first evening after arriving at the plateau. The trail from Wang Kwang Center is the shortest among the cliffs—approximately 2.3 kilometers.
The area features a broad sandstone terrace dotted with pine trees, providing a tranquil and open atmosphere. The viewpoint offers a clear and wide view of Phu Pha Chit, whose layered mountain ridges become even more magnificent during winter (November–February).
During the early rainy season or at the transition between the rainy and cool seasons, wild Siam tulips bloom beautifully along the trail to the cliff, adding a touch of color to the natural scenery.
Along the way, small local stalls and porters’ shops offer simple food and warm drinks such as noodles, grilled eggs, and coffee, allowing travelers to relax and enjoy the cozy ambiance while waiting for the sunset.
Although the viewpoint is close to the visitor center, it’s best to bring a flashlight and plan your return before dark, as the sky quickly turns dark after sunset.
