“Wat Khetnaboonyaram Wat Khetnaboonyaram It is an Anam Nikaya temple. Built during the reign of King Rama III, 1834 until the year 1896, during the reign of King Rama V, 3 temples were graciously granted to the administration of the Annam Nikaya Sangha.”

History of Wat Khet Na Bunyaram During the period when Ayutthaya fell to the Burmese, King Taksin the Great, then Phraya Wachiraprakarn, led approximately 500 soldiers to break through the Burmese encirclement eastwards and captured Chanthaburi for five months as a supply and troop base. Then he led a combined Thai-Chinese force of 5,000 back to reclaim Ayutthaya in 1767.

Later, during the reign of King Nangklao, the city was moved to Ban Noen Wong, located on higher ground to serve as a stronghold against invasions by the Vietnamese. Until the reign of King Chulalongkorn, Chanthaburi was moved back to its original lowland location because Ban Noen Wong was far from water sources. In 1893, a dispute arose between Thailand and France, and France occupied Chanthaburi for 11 years, until Thailand had to cede the left bank of the Mekong River to France in exchange for reclaiming Chanthaburi.

The event is a source of pride for the people of Chanthaburi, which can be seen from the many historical sites and monuments associated with or established to commemorate his majesty's benevolence at that time, and it is also the origin of Wat Yuan

As for the Vietnamese residing in Thailand, there are both those who follow Buddhism and those who follow Christianity. Those who follow Buddhism, when settling in any area, would invite Vietnamese monks to build temples, serving as places for them to practice charity in that locality. Vietnam adopted Mahayana Buddhism from China. Therefore, when the Vietnamese built temples and had Vietnamese monks in Thailand, initially only the Vietnamese supported and followed them. However, since there were no Chinese temples in Thailand at that time, the Chinese often made merit at Vietnamese temples as they also followed Mahayana Buddhism and shared similar religious rituals, such as the Gongde ceremony. Similarly, Thais, though not Buddhist followers themselves, did not mind because they saw that they worshipped the same Buddha.
