“The top of this mountain on the top of Kitchakut or Khao Phat has geological phenomena that have been associated with Buddhist legends such as Chedi stone, Buddha's footprints, and the obedient stone of Tham Rishi.”

Khao Phra Bat Peak is the highest point of the Khao Khitchakut mountain range, reaching approximately 1,085 meters above sea level. It enshrines the Buddha's Footprint, which is a large rock bearing the characteristic shape of a giant footprint. It is believed to be the footprint left by the Lord Buddha himself. It is considered the most sacred object on Khao Khitchakut and the destination of a pilgrimage that attracts hundreds of thousands of people each year.

The tradition of ascending to pay homage to the Buddha's Footprint is highly unique and deeply revered. It is held only once a year during a specific religious festival period (starting around Chinese New Year until Makha Bucha Day, or approximately two months). The journey to the summit requires utilizing a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle service followed by a relatively long and steep walk. Worshippers often tie a red cloth as an offering (Buddhā Pūjā) and pray for success in life.

In addition to the Buddha’s Footprint, the peak area features fascinating natural phenomena linked to religious legends, such as Hin Luk Phra Bat (a colossal, round rock resting precariously on a cliff), Sila Chedi (Stupa Rock), and Ruesi Cave. The atmosphere on the peak during the festival is filled with devotion, chanting, and people performing circumambulation. The night view is particularly stunning due to the light emanating from the red cloth banners and lanterns illuminating the area.

How to Get There
  • From Bangkok, travel by car along Bangna-Trad Road. When you reach Khao Raiya Intersection at kilometer 248 and turn left into Bamras Naradura Road for 18 kilometers, there will be a sign to Khao Kitchakut.
  • The journey up Mount Kitchakut starts at Wat Pholuang along a very steep road and is an 8 km nest (it takes a four-wheel-drive car to climb Mount Kitchakut), then has to walk up the mountain about 1.2 kilometers.
