“Visit the local museum of rare antiques, trace King Rama V's historic journey, and experience the riverside lifestyle where two rivers meet amidst peaceful scenery.”

Wat Bang Taen is an ancient private temple located on the banks of the Prachinburi River in Ban Sang District, Prachinburi Province. It has a long history dating back to the late Ayutthaya period. Originally named "Wat Silat Satthatham," it was renamed "Wat Bang Taen" after the subdistrict during the reign of King Rama V, following an inspection of the monastic community in Prachinburi Province by Somdej Phra Mahasamanachao Krom Phraya Vajirayanavaroros. Situated on a major waterway in the Bang Pakong River basin, the temple historically served as a center for religion, transportation, and the way of life of the riverside community. The temple is also connected to the royal history of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), who is recorded as having stayed overnight at the temple during his visit to Prachinburi Province in 1908. This has made Wat Bang Taen an important historical site in Prachinburi Province to this day.

The temple contains several points of interest, most notably "Luang Pho Khum," a sacred Buddha image revered by the people of Bang Taen. This image is enshrined within the main chapel and has been deeply respected by the local community for a long time. The main Buddha image is an ancient artifact reflecting the local art of the eastern river basin community. The atmosphere within the temple is peaceful and serene, surrounded by large trees and a stream, allowing the temple to clearly preserve the unique character of a traditional riverside community temple. Furthermore, the temple grounds contain historical traces and narratives related to the site of a former royal pavilion of King Rama V, reflecting the historical significance of this area.

Another important highlight of Wat Bang Taen is the "Wat Bang Taen Folk Museum," a significant learning center for the history and local culture of Prachinburi province. The museum houses a collection of antique household items used by villagers in the Bang Pakong and Prachinburi river basins, such as pottery, Benjarong porcelain, traditional kitchen utensils, kerosene lamps, woven handicrafts, fishing tools, and everyday objects from the past. Many items reflect the lifestyle of the riverside community that relied on boat transportation and water trade for generations. The museum also displays the "Royal Alms-Collecting Boat," a gift from King Chulalongkorn to the abbot of Wat Bang Taen during his visit, a valuable and rare historical artifact.

Wat Bang Taen is not merely a place of worship, but has long been a central hub for the Bang Taen community, encompassing traditions, culture, and education. In the past, this area was a bustling waterway trading center, situated on the route between the Bang Pakong River basin and Prachinburi, attracting frequent travelers from other regions. This is reflected in the museum's collection of local artifacts as well as items from Bangkok and other areas brought in via the waterway trade. The temple thus serves as a focal point of memories for this river basin community and a place that vividly tells the story of traditional Thai rural society.
