“Panoramic views across three provinces (Lampang, Lamphun, and Tak) can be seen from the scenic viewpoints of Pha Yod Wiman and Pha Khang Nak, along with a peaceful stargazing campsite surrounded by untouched forest and mountain landscapes.”
Doi Chong National Park lies along the border of Lampang and Lamphun provinces and is known for its rugged mountain ranges and well-preserved deciduous forests. The highest peak, Doi Chong, rises to about 1,379 meters above sea level, creating a cool climate throughout the year and particularly cold temperatures during the winter months.
One of the main highlights is the trek to the summit of Doi Chong, where visitors can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding mountains stretching across Lampang, Lamphun, and Tak provinces. Along the trail, travelers may encounter rare forest plants, including wild orchids such as “Fa Mui”, which bloom beautifully during the winter season. The forest also displays a stunning seasonal color change in early winter, creating picturesque landscapes across the mountains.
For visitors who prefer a more relaxing experience, the park headquarters area offers a peaceful camping ground surrounded by lush greenery. This area is also known as one of the best dark-sky locations in Lampang, making it ideal for stargazing and astrophotography on clear nights.
The headquarters also serves as the starting point for a short nature trail leading to small waterfalls and the scenic Pha Khang Nak viewpoint, where visitors can enjoy a spectacular sunrise and a sea of mist covering the valleys below.
How to Get There
- By Car: From Lampang city, take Highway No. 1 (Phahonyothin Road) toward Sob Prab District (direction to Tak Province). Around Kilometer 648–649, turn left toward the entrance of Doi Chong National Park Headquarters, then drive about 8 kilometers along the paved road to reach the park office.
