“A large and beautiful waterfall during the rainy season, featuring rich natural surroundings and cliff viewpoints. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful, making it ideal for relaxation in the midst of forests and mountains.”

Pha Nang Khoi Waterfall is located within Dong Huai Fa National Reserved Forest, near Phu Faek Forest Park in Na Khu District, Kalasin Province. The area lies along the Phu Phan mountain range, an ancient sandstone formation in northeastern Thailand. The surrounding landscape consists of mixed forest, including dry dipterocarp and mixed deciduous forest, resulting in high biodiversity and relatively well-preserved natural conditions. The waterfall is formed by a natural stream flowing through sandstone layers in the mountains. Over time, water erosion has carved steep cliffs and wide rock terraces. During the rainy season, the water cascades down dramatically over the cliff face. A distinctive feature of the site is its vertical rock formation, which in some angles resembles the silhouette of a seated woman looking into the distance, giving rise to the name “Pha Nang Khoi.”

The surrounding forest is rich in vegetation, including trees such as dipterocarp, Shorea, Pterocarpus, and occasionally teak. The understory includes ferns, wild orchids, and moss growing on rock surfaces. The humidity created by the waterfall helps sustain a micro-ecosystem, making the area noticeably greener than its surroundings. The site is also home to small wildlife such as forest birds, butterflies, and some nocturnal animals. This makes it an important habitat within the Phu Phan forest ecosystem. The landscape includes large natural rock terraces formed by long-term water erosion, creating flat and layered surfaces suitable for resting or viewing scenery. In certain viewpoints, visitors can see expansive forest landscapes, especially in the early morning when mist often covers the valley.

The name “Pha Nang Khoi” comes from a local legend describing the cliff as resembling a woman sitting and gazing into the distance, symbolizing waiting for a loved one. This story adds cultural and mythical significance to the natural site.During the rainy season (July to October), the waterfall is at its most powerful and visually impressive, forming a wide curtain of water. In the cool season, the weather is pleasant and suitable for hiking and nature exploration. In the dry season, water levels decrease, revealing rock layers and geological formations, making it suitable for nature study.Access to the waterfall requires traveling through mountainous and forested roads. The final section includes unpaved and potentially steep terrain, requiring caution, especially during the rainy season. The area remains largely natural with minimal facilities, making it ideal for visitors seeking an authentic nature experience.
