“An ancient temple of great historical importance as a site for the "Oath of Allegiance" ceremony and a conservation area for a large number of natural Lyle's flying foxes living on giant trees around the temple.”

Luang Phrommawat Temple is a temple with a long history and is very significant in the historical records of Phanat Nikhom District. It is believed to have been built during the Ayutthaya period. One major reason this temple is recorded in history is that it was once a sacred venue for the Thue Nam Phra Phiphat Sattaya ceremony for government officials and city rulers. This was a solemn oath-taking ritual to show loyalty to the nation and the King. The sanctity and elegance of the old ordination hall (Ubosot), along with the surrounding atmosphere, have made Wat Luang Phrommawat the center of spirit and community order for hundreds of years.

The thing that amazes tourists and visitors the most when entering the temple grounds is finding a colony of thousands of Lyle's flying foxes living naturally on the large trees around the temple. These bats have special characteristics: they are large, with faces resembling foxes and brown fur similar to a hen's feathers (hence the Thai name "Mae Kai" or Mother Hen). They cling to tree branches during the day and go out to feed at night. The fact that a massive number of bats have chosen the temple area as a safe shelter for generations reflects the temple's kindness and the strength of the Animal Sanctuary zone, becoming one of the most important natural learning sites in Chonburi.

The architecture within Wat Luang Phrommawat still retains a classic aura of the past, especially the ordination hall, which has been delicately restored to preserve the beauty of ancient Thai art. Inside, a sacred Buddha image highly revered by the locals is enshrined. The atmosphere around the temple is filled with peace and shade from the shadows of giant trees that spread their branches over the area, making those who come to make merit or visit feel refreshed in both body and mind. Walking through Wat Luang Phrommawat is a perfect blend of reaching Dhamma (Buddhist teachings) and reaching nature.

For photographers and eco-tourists, this temple is a paradise for capturing wildlife within a Buddhist sanctuary. Images of flying foxes hanging still on branches against the sky or the graceful temple roof offer a rare and unique perspective. Additionally, tourists will witness the way of life of the surrounding community, which remains closely tied to Buddhism. Visiting here provides historical knowledge, the enjoyment of seeing rare animals, and the peace of Dhamma embedded in every inch of the area.

We invite everyone to experience the beauty and uniqueness of Wat Luang Phrommawat in Phanat Nikhom. Paying respect to the Buddha image for prosperity and walking to see the wonders of the flying fox colony will provide you with a different experience from typical temple visits. This place is an excellent example of peaceful coexistence between humans, animals, and religion, and it is a cultural and natural heritage that we should help preserve forever.
