“Watch the process of wood carving right in front of the artisan's house, choose to buy realistic wooden animal figures, and browse products from the Thatungluang OTOP Center at friendly prices.”
Ban Tha Wood Carving Village is more than just a souvenir market—it is a true handicraft community. Originally, villagers carved wood during their spare time from farming. Over time, their skills developed into a primary occupation that brought recognition to Lamphun Province. Today, the village produces everything from small gift items and Buddha images in various postures to large decorative wooden sculptures for buildings.
The Charm of Walking Through the Village
As you stroll along both sides of the village road, you’ll hear the rhythmic sound of chisels and hammers and catch the scent of freshly carved rain tree (Chamchuri) wood. The craftsmanship here ranges from traditional Lanna styles to modern designs, including life-size animal sculptures that appear almost alive. Each shop has its own unique style, making every visit engaging and inspiring.
Activities and Annual Festival
Beyond browsing and shopping directly from artisans, visitors can experience the vibrant annual wood carving festival held between February and March. This event showcases the finest craftsmanship in Mae Tha District, featuring special pieces, exhibitions, and a lively atmosphere with a wide selection of unique products.
