“Marvel at the three-headed Erawan elephant stalactite, explore the sparkling crystal cave chamber, and enjoy panoramic views of the Yom River and Kaeng Luang from the cliff.”

Erawan Cave is situated on a steep limestone cliff within Doi Pha Klong National Park in Long District. The cave entrance sits high above ground level, requiring visitors to climb a staircase for approximately 10–15 minutes. Along the way, you will experience the peaceful atmosphere of the surrounding limestone forest before reaching the impressive cave chamber hidden within the mountain.

Inside, the cave is spacious and naturally ventilated. Its most remarkable feature is the large stalactite and stalagmite formation resembling three elephant heads, known as the “Erawan Elephant Rock.” This extraordinary natural sculpture has become the symbol of the cave and is considered a rare geological wonder.

The cave also contains various other limestone formations, including curtain-like draperies, tray-shaped rocks, and surfaces coated with calcite crystals. When illuminated, these minerals sparkle like diamonds, creating a magical atmosphere throughout the chamber.

One of the cave’s most distinctive features is its open cliffside entrance, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Yom River winding through Kaeng Luang rapids, surrounded by lush green forest. This viewpoint is especially popular for photography and is well worth the climb.

Erawan Cave remains largely untouched and tranquil, making it ideal for eco-tourism and nature study. Visitors can also learn about the region’s limestone ecosystem and geological significance while appreciating its serene environment.

How to Get There
  • By private car: From Phrae town, take Highway 1023 (Phrae–Long) for approximately 30 kilometers. Turn right at the sign toward Kaeng Luang, then follow the signs to the cave parking area.

Travel Tips
  • Wear non-slip footwear, as the staircase and cave floor may be damp.

  • Bring a small flashlight to better see the cave formations.

  • Avoid touching stalactites and stalagmites to preserve their natural growth.

  • Allow enough time for the climb and rest stops along the way.
