“Pay homage to the radiant golden Phra That Doi Hang Bat, see the footprints of the alms bowl according to Buddhist legend, and immerse yourself in the 360-degree view of the Lamphun-Chiang Mai border amidst the tranquility of a forest temple on a mountaintop.”

Wat Phra That Doi Hang Bat is located on a mountaintop in the Huai Yap subdistrict, Ban Thi district, Lamphun province. There is no clear evidence of when it was built, but it is a sacred place that has been important to the community for a long time.

The Buddhist Legend of Doi Hang Bat

According to legend, in the Buddhist era, the Lord Buddha came to this mountain and prepared to go out for alms, which in the local language is called "Hang Bat." This is the origin of the name of the mountain and the Phra That.

The Sacred Hang Bat Footprints

On the mountaintop, there is a deep hole in the shale rock, believed to be the spot where he prepared the alms bowl. Today, a mondop has been built to cover it so that people can pay their respects and ask for blessings for good fortune.

Architecture and Atmosphere

The Phra That is a white, clean, four-faced pagoda decorated with a golden umbrella on top, standing majestically on a wide courtyard. It offers a panoramic view of Ban Thi district and the border of Chiang Mai province. The atmosphere is peaceful, ideal for meditation and relaxation.

The Tradition of Bathing the Phra That

On important religious days, especially Visakha Bucha Day, villagers come together to walk up the mountain to bathe the Phra That, reflecting the faith that has been passed down for generations.
