“A Royal Initiative reservoir, 19 meters high and 271 meters long, featuring panoramic mountain views from the dam crest and famous local dishes like Kai Tod Tha Chompoo.”

Mae Sao Reservoir is part of a Royal Initiative Project of His Majesty the King, constructed to store water from Huai Mae Sao for agricultural use—especially for longan orchards and rice fields, the key economic crops of Mae Tha District.

The earthen dam stands 19 meters high and 271 meters long, with a storage capacity of approximately 3 million cubic meters. It plays a vital role in strengthening water security and improving the livelihoods of local communities.

Elevated Scenic Viewpoint

The 4-meter-wide dam crest serves as a walking path and the best panoramic viewpoint. Visitors can enjoy sweeping views of the reservoir embraced by lush green mountains.

During sunset, golden light reflects beautifully on the water’s surface, creating a “Mirror Lake” effect. A rest pavilion is available for relaxing and enjoying the cool breeze.

Local Lifestyle & Culinary Experience

The reservoir is also an important freshwater fishing source for the community. Visitors may occasionally witness traditional fishing practices that reflect the close relationship between locals and their natural resources.

When visiting Mae Tha, don’t miss tasting local specialties such as:

  • Grilled seasoned fish

  • Kai Tod Tha Chompoo (Pink-Marinated Fried Chicken)

These dishes are available at nearby restaurants or at Kad Mae Tha local market.
