“Pay homage to "Phra Chao Ton Luang," a stucco Buddha image with a lap width of 7.5 meters, fully enshrined in the Viharn, pray for "misfortune aversion" for auspiciousness, and admire the Jataka murals inside the shady model development temple.”
Wat Phra Chao Ton Luang is a heritage of faith in Si Tia Subdistrict, with a long history dating back to 1909 BE. It was built by Phra Thera Siri Rachawaso, together with the faithful power of the villagers of Huai La and Lai Kaeo, to be an auspicious and mental refuge for the community for over 6 centuries.
The main Buddha image, "Phra Chao Ton Luang" is a colossal stucco Buddha image in the subduing Mara pose, 9.5 meters high and 7.5 meters wide, enshrined almost fully in the Viharn, creating a feeling of grandeur, power, and sanctity. Legend has it that those who pay homage with a pure heart will help alleviate misfortunes or be spared from various obstacles.
Inside the Viharn appear Jataka murals, conveying the Buddha's biography and moral principles in the Lanna art style, combined with the simple yet beautiful Viharn structure, providing a peaceful and cool atmosphere suitable for meditation and prayer.
This temple has received the Model Development Temple award for its clean, shady, and orderly landscape, becoming both a source of religious learning and a place for relaxation for people in the area and merit-making tourists. It is suitable for those who have faith in the power of "averting misfortune" as well as those who are interested in Lanna art and want to experience a peaceful temple atmosphere in Ban Hong District.
