“Pay respects to the statue of Kruba Sriwichai at his birthplace, explore the relic museum displaying personal belongings and a historic vehicle, and admire the rare open-hall Lanna wooden viharn.”

Wat Ban Pang is one of the most spiritually important temples in Northern Thailand, as it is the birthplace and early ordination site of Kruba Sriwichai, the revered “Saint of Lanna.” He played a crucial role in restoring temples across the region and became a powerful symbol of faith for northern communities.

Within the temple grounds is the Kruba Sriwichai Relic Museum, which preserves sacred items such as his peacock-feather fan, walking stick, robes, and personal belongings. A major highlight is the historic automobile used during the construction of the road to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, representing the deep collective devotion of the people of that era.

The temple sits on a gentle hillside surrounded by large trees, creating a tranquil atmosphere with cool weather throughout the year. Visitors can also enjoy wide views of Li District, making it an ideal place for quiet reflection and spiritual retreat.

Wat Ban Pang is therefore considered the spiritual root of Lanna faith, combining historical significance, cultural heritage, and a deeply peaceful environment in one meaningful destination.

How to Get There
  • By Car: From Li District, drive along Highway 106 toward Chiang Mai for about 40 km. The temple stands prominently on a hillside on the left side, with spacious parking available.
