“Admire well-preserved stalactites and stalagmites, experience dramatic natural light shafts inside the giant cave chamber, and explore scenic trails through a rich dry dipterocarp forest surrounding the area.”
Tham Yang Wi Cave is a large limestone cave located on a high cliff within Mae Ping National Park. The interior consists of several spacious chambers at different levels, creating an impressive sense of scale and grandeur from the moment visitors step inside.
The cave is filled with active stalactites and stalagmites formed over thousands of years by mineral-rich water drips. Many formations resemble curtains, pillars, and animal shapes. The most spectacular time to visit is around midday, when sunlight streams through natural ceiling shafts, causing the limestone surfaces to sparkle like gemstones.
Due to its remote and quiet environment, the cave serves as an important habitat for insect-eating bats. Visitors may hear echoing bat sounds or see colonies resting on the high ceilings. Some areas may contain bat guano, which can be slippery and produce a strong odor, so caution and face masks are recommended for sensitive visitors.
The approach to the cave passes through a well-preserved dry dipterocarp forest. During the cool season, leaves change color beautifully against the dark gray limestone outcrops, making the journey itself part of the adventure.
