“Famous for its emerald-green natural pool, seven-tier limestone cascades with stalactite formations, and an easy shaded nature trail leading to the waterfall.”
Kor Luang Waterfall is one of the most famous natural waterfalls in Lamphun Province, located within Mae Ping National Park. It is distinguished by its striking emerald-green water and a well-preserved natural ecosystem.
This waterfall is a limestone waterfall formed by water from Mae Ko Stream flowing over layers of grey-black shale and sandstone cliffs that descend across seven tiers. As the stream passes through limestone, it carries high mineral content, causing sedimentation that results in exceptionally clear water reflecting a unique emerald-green color.
Along the waterfall cliffs, visitors can observe numerous stalactites and stalagmites formed through long-term limestone accumulation. These geological features enhance the waterfall’s natural uniqueness and create scenery rarely seen at typical waterfalls.
At the base lies a large natural pool with considerable width_ and depth. It is home to various freshwater fish species, including Pla Pluang (mahseer). Visitors can swim in designated areas under the supervision of park staff.
The surrounding area is a lush natural forest rich in biodiversity, serving as habitat for many wildlife and bird species. During certain periods, visitors may have opportunities to spot Green Peafowl foraging nearby.
The waterfall is located approximately 20 kilometers from Mae Ping National Park headquarters, followed by an easy 500-meter walk along a shaded and accessible nature trail.
