“A pristine cave featuring glittering white stalactites and stalagmites that resemble a heavenly realm. It offers excellent natural ventilation and easy access within Sai Yok National Park.”

Daowadung Cave is one of the most famous limestone caves in Kanchanaburi Province and is considered one of the most beautiful natural caves in Thailand. Located in the northern part of Sai Yok National Park, near the Sai Yok 2 ranger station, it's nestled amidst lush forests and large limestone mountains. Inside, the cave is filled with naturally formed stalactites and stalagmites, created over millions of years. These formations are diverse, resembling chandeliers, pagodas, stupas, rock curtains, and large stone pillars. When illuminated, they sparkle beautifully, giving rise to the name "Daowadung," meaning heaven on earth.

The cave was discovered in 1972 by Mr. Samli Kuha, who accidentally found the cave entrance while following animals in the forest. Subsequent exploration revealed the cave's exceptional beauty and natural richness. The cave is approximately 80-100 meters deep and divided into several chambers, each named after its distinctive stalactite and stalagmite formations, such as the Chandelier Room, the Crystal Umbrella Room, the Pagoda Room, and the Sky Curtain Room, which is considered a highlight for visitors. Inside the cave, the air is relatively cool, and natural air vents allow for good ventilation, even deep within the cave.

The journey to Tham Daowadung Cave is another charm of this place. Tourists must hike uphill through natural forest for approximately 1 kilometer before reaching the cave entrance. Along the way, they can experience the atmosphere of the forest within the national park up close. In the past, it was popular to travel by long-tail boat via the Khwae Noi River followed by a hike, but now it is easily accessible by car. However, the path to the cave is still quite steep, so it is suitable for those who are physically fit and enjoy nature tourism.

The cave is also home to many cave animals, especially bats and insects that can be found in certain areas. The tranquility and darkness inside help maintain the unique ecosystem of the area. Therefore, visitors should strictly follow the instructions of the staff, refrain from touching the stalactites and stalagmites, avoid making loud noises, and not litter inside the cave to help preserve its natural beauty for future generations. In addition, during the rainy season, the path may be damp and slippery, so it is advisable to wear shoes with good grip and to bring a flashlight to illuminate the details of the stalactites and stalagmites in areas that are not well-lit.

With its natural beauty, tranquility, and mysterious atmosphere, Tham Daowadung Cave is a must-see destination. This has made Tham Daowadung Cave one of the most popular destinations for nature lovers and cave exploration enthusiasts in Kanchanaburi province. Many consider it one of the caves with the most beautiful stalactites and stalagmites in western Thailand, and it is also a place that reflects the wonders of nature that have been created in an astonishing way over millions of years.
