“A seven-tiered limestone waterfall in deep jungle with non-slip surfaces, cascading down steep cliffs. Surrounded by rare flora, perfect for relaxation and true eco-adventures.”
Thung Nang Khruan Waterfall, also known as "Thung Nang Khruan Waterfall," is one of the most beautiful and pristine limestone waterfalls in Kanchanaburi Province. Located within Lam Khlong Ngu National Park, in Ban Thung Nang Khruan, Chalae Subdistrict, Thong Pha Phum District, the surrounding area is a large, lush rainforest connected to the Tenasserim Mountains, a continuous forest range between Thailand and Myanmar. This results in high biodiversity, including various plants, wildlife, wild mushrooms, and many rare species. The atmosphere along the route is shady, cool, and tranquil, ideal for tourists seeking a truly unspoiled natural experience.
The waterfall originates from several streams in the high mountains within the park, flowing over large limestone cliffs to create cascading waterfalls. While there are seven tiers in total, generally only 3-4 are accessible to visitors, depending on weather conditions and park regulations. The waterfall's main charm lies in its light-colored limestone tiers, formed by the natural accumulation of minerals over a long period, creating beautiful patterns and cascading layers resembling natural balconies. The water flowing over the limestone tiers is clear and sometimes has a greenish-blue tint. Especially during the rainy season and into early winter, the waterfall cascades down to its highest level, creating a refreshing mist that permeates the entire area.
The most popular tier is the third one, which is over 35 meters high and considered the highlight of Nang Khruan Waterfall. The water flows down from a towering limestone cliff amidst towering trees, the sound of the waterfall crashing against the rocks echoing throughout the valley. At the bottom, there's a natural pool where swimming is possible during certain seasons, but extra caution is needed during the rainy season as the current can be strong and some sections of the path can be slippery. The trail to the upper tiers becomes steeper, and tourists wishing to explore deeper levels usually need a local guide or ranger for safety.
The trail to the waterfall is another charm of this place. Tourists will walk through a highly pristine natural forest, lined with large trees, ferns, moss, and numerous native plants. During the rainy season, various types of wild mushrooms can be found growing at the base of trees and in damp areas. Along the way, the sounds of wild birds and small animals can be heard, making the hike to the waterfall feel like a nature walk deep in the forest. Furthermore, Lam Khlong Ngu National Park is home to many species of wildlife, including wild elephants. During certain periods, the national park may temporarily close the area for the safety of tourists. Therefore, it is advisable to check the latest announcements before traveling.
Although Nang Khruan Waterfall does not have large-scale facilities like many famous waterfalls in Thailand, its main charm lies in its pristine natural beauty and tranquility. Many tourists enjoy visiting to relax, swim, take photos of the natural surroundings, and camp in permitted areas, especially during the late rainy season to early winter, considered the most beautiful time of year. The forest is lush green, the waterfall has abundant water, and the weather is cool and comfortable throughout the day. The beauty of this large limestone waterfall hidden in the middle of the forest makes Nang Khruan Waterfall a prominent natural tourist attraction and one of the "Unseen" destinations in Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province.
